Holden says he really knew Jane they hung out everyday. He also says you don't have to always get sexy to know a girl. Once they went golfing and she lost 8 balls! Jane's mother didn't like Holden much though. And Holden learned not to kid around with Jane. Girls are hard to kid.. but they like it though. Once they were outside on the porch and Jane's step dad asked her where the cigs were. When she went inside 1 tear fell from Jane's eyes. Holden went and sat by her then she really started to cry. He couldn't figure out what was wrong, some girls you never find out. But Jane went and changed clothes and they went to the movies. If Holden knew any it was that he was always happy with Jane.
I really like this chapter its a childhood crush just like everyone has. It was really cute. They knew each other and were good friends but always felt a little more. I wonder why Jane was crying if she just really feared the step dad or if he's mistreated her before.
