Chapter 2

The Spencer's are in their 70's and get a kick out of everything. Mr. S is sick and talks about a grippe??? Mr. S asks if it's true about him leaving and he tells about the 2 hour chat with Mr. Thurmer. Mr. S tells Holden that life is a game and you should play according to the rules. This is the 4th school he's gone to. Holden is 17 years old 6'2.5 " and has grey hair. Holden says people never notice anything (9). Grand there's a word I really hate. It's a phony. (9) Then the convo got serious about grades and how he is failing 4 subjects. Only class not failing if english. Then Mr. S read his final essay out loud and had a look on his face like he'd just beaten the hell outta Holden. (12) Holden shot the bull a for a while about how it wasn't Mr. S's fault. Mr. S wants him to think about the future and wants to help him. Holden ends with saying why do people say good luck... it sounds so terriable..

I didn't like how it was a good happy visit then suddenly got extremely serious and mr. s seemed like a complete different guy.
