Chapter 9


Two years later he still remembers vividly what happened and still on Gatsby's side. But Nick prepared the funeral. He was questioned frequently by the reporters because he was the only one who cared. Nick learned that Daisy and Tom had packed up and left leaving no note. Nick sent the butler to Wolfshiem to send word of Gatsby. Wolfshiem sent a letter back saying he was very sad to hear that but would not be returning for the funeral. Mr. Gatz called asking for Gatsby Nick informed him about his death and he sent word saying that he was coming and to hold off on the funeral until he arrived. Mr. Gatz comes sees the body and stays with Nick. Gatz says he had such a bright future he would have built up the country. Nick visited New York to visit Wolfshiem and tell him to come to the funeral. He talks about how he met Gatsby in the military and how he build him. He was his closest friend but would be go to the funeral. Gatz showed Nick the picture of the house that Gatsby had sent him and reminised on his son. At the funeral it was only Nick, Gatz, and the minister until at the cemetary the drunkin man who was in the library showed up. He said.. "Blessed are the dead ones rain falls on." (183) Nick moved back home become the East was haunted for him after the death. Nick needed to do one more thing. Have closure with Jordan. They met up and she told him she was engaged. Nick left angry, half in love with her, and tremendously sorry. One day when Nick was walking in town he saw Tom and tried to avoid him. Tom spotted him and came to shake his hand. Nick asked him what he really said to Wilson that day. Tom said the told him the truth and who owned the car. Nick hates Tom and the drama and death of his friend that he created. Nick visits Gatsby house and lays on the beach brooding on the unknown world bourne back ceaselessly into the past.
