Chapter 7

Nick hasn't heard from Gatsby in quite some time so he asks around he hears that he's sick and that he fired all of his servants. Nick finally goes over and sees him. Gatsby tells him how Daisy comes over most afternoons and he hired new people who don't know Gatsby or the situation so he could be sure rumors wouldn't start. Nick, Gatsby, Jordan, Tom, and Daisy are all having lunch together Daisy's. It is the hottest day of the summer and everyone is miserable from the heat. Daisy tells Tom to go get them all cold drinks. When he leaves Daisy kisses Gatsby. A child enters the story must be Daisy n Tom's. Daisy calls her "blessed precious" or Pammy. Daisy has the child turn around facing Gatsby and asks her what do you think about mommys friends. The says.. where's daddy? and then the nurse and her leave. (123) Daisy makes a comment to Gatsby saying you look cool.. you always look so cool. Tom sees them staring at each and can sense something is going on. So he gets up and says lets all go to town trying to break the awkward tension. Daisy tells Tom to take Nick and Jordan and her and Gatsby will follow. Gatsby and Daisy walk together and she touches his coat.. right inront of Tom. While driving Tom is ranting about all this but they stop under those eyes to get gas. Nick sees Mrytle watching Tom out the window. She looks furious thinking that Jordan is Tom's wife. Tom talks to Mr. Wilson who says he is taking Mytle and they are moving West. Asks to have Tom's old yellow car. Tom agrees. But he feels his wife and his mistress slipping out of his contorl. They get to town and rent a suite. Tom remarks about where the old sport came from. They talk about how he went to Oxford but only for a few weeks. Nick says he had a renewal of comlete faith in him. (136). Tom asks Gatsby what row he is trying to cause between his family. Gatsby ends up saying your wife doesn't love you and never has. Tom says no way. So Gatsby makes Daisy say it. So she says I never loved you. Gatsby then informs Tom that Daisy is also leaving her. Daisy gets mad and they all end up leaving to go home. Nick realizes that this day is his 30th birthday. On the way home they stop upon an accident and find Mrytles dead body. She was hit by a yellow car. Wilson is questioning Tom about where he has been thinkin it was him. But suddenly Tom says to Nick lets get out and they leave quick. They are all silent in the car and Tom begins to cry softly saying what a coward.. they couldn't even stop the car. When they get to Tom's house Nick has him order a taxi for him. Jordan trys to get Nick to stay but he says he is just fed up with all of them so she leaves him quicky. While waiting for the taxi Gatsby pops out. He is watchin the hosue making sure Tom doesn't harm Daisy. He finds out that Daisy was drving on the way home and was the one who hit Mrytle. She didn't stop and sped away quickly. Nick is upset and leaves Gatsby watching over nothing.

- Nick says he realized her voice is full of money.. ? whats this reguarding..
- Is there a connect to them stopping under the eyes while getting gas.. ?
- Nick says when he looked at Gatsby at the right after telling Tom that Daisy was leaving him.. It look like he had killed a man.. (142) major foreshadowing!
- Trying to touch what was no longer tangilbe.. really made me think
