Holden arrives at Mr. Antolini's apartment and him and his wife are cleaning up from an upscale they'd just had. Holden know he must have been drinking. They sit down and start talking about how he got kicked out and how Mr. A is worried about his"fall". Holden tells him he just didn't like some of the rules they had. It starts to get intense the the mrs comes in with coffee breaking the tension. “I have a feeling that you're riding for some kind of terrible, terrible fall.” Mr. A think Holden can't adapt to the environments he's surrounded by. Mr. A get the couch ready and let Holden fall asleep only to awake by Mr. A petting him. Holden thinks this is a homosexual move and gets out of the apartment as quickly as he can.
This reminds of a lot of the convo with his old history teacher. I don't think Holden realizes that a lot of people actually care about him and want him to succeed in life. They keep warning him about his future and getting on the right track but it doesn't seem to sink in. I also don't think Mr. A had any intension with the pet. He was drunk.. end of story..
