Chapter 21

The other men are making fun of the 304th for stopping 100 ft. away from success. Henry says his flesh was deeply stung. The colonel calls these men mud diggers. But Wilson and Henry are talking and they say they fought the very best they could. They say if anyone thought any of how they fought were damn fools. A man comes up to Henry and Wilson and tells them they heard the colonel talking saying that Wilson and Henry were the best soldiers out of the 304th regiment. They act like there aren't affect by those words but really their hearts swelled with grateful affection.
