whoops forgot to include this:
Henry Fleming: main character.. dreamed of war so ends up enlisting. When faced with war and dangerous situations he runs away and is a coward but towards the end becomes the flag bearer and a brave solder. In his journey he learns a lot about himself, matures, and become a man.

Jim Conlin a.k.a tall soldier: Starts out with rumors of upcoming battles. He becomes a good friend of Henry's. Jim gets shot and after talking to henry and then trying to run ends up falling to the ground and passing away.

Wilson a.k.a loud soldier: Wilson is a very dear friend of Henry's. He takes care of Henry when Henry obtains a head wound. Henry notices the change in him and now thinks of him as a sensative kind person. They stick with each other during all the war. Wilson grasps the confederate flag from their flag bearer right as the war is won.

Tattered soldier: Talks to Henry and confuses him with his friend. He is asking about Henry's wound and wants to see it. He talks about how he can't die because he has kids back home. Since henry doesn't have a wound he gets annoyed and ends up walking away from the man knowing that he would die is left abandoned.

Lieutenant: In charge of the war. He brings up the moral of the soldiers. He also calls Henry the best soldier out of the 304th regiment.

Henry's mother: Does not approve of Henry enlisting in the war and has wrong ideas about war is really about. She makes Henry socks, jam, and packs him shifts to bring. She saw no support while is son is giong off to war not knowing if he will return. She basically just tells him to be a good boy and not to be a coward and not fight just so he could return to take care of her.
